How Clouds Hold Water

You need-
coloured water
a clear jar with water in it
shaving foam
an eyedropper.

We put the shaving foam on top of the water in the jar and then we dropped the coloured water on top of the shaving cream. The coloured water slowly went through the 'cloud' and it rained!

We found out that when the cloud gets too heavy and it can't hold the water anymore it rains.

We also found out about the Water Cycle- Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and then it rains!

Look at our 'clouds' and the 'rain'-

I wonder-
Some children asked-

What other kinds of materials could we use rather than shaving cream.

What happens in the clouds to make hail, sleet or snow.

Can we do an experiment showing water going up.

when warm, wet air rises it cools and water vapor condenses out to form clouds.

Seth S - Hot air carries water up then when it gets cool and heavy it falls.
