Vanuatu
I've just come back for a short vist.
In Vanuatu my family and I have been to heaps of places like the waterfalls (I went for a swim),around the island,to beaches, serect gardens and to a wedding,3 weddings in one day.
The serect gardens is a place were you can read the stories and hold the animals.

Our Visit to Mckee Reserve and Mapua Aquarium
Once upon a time room 7 & 8 went in a horse and carriage to fairy land...uhhhhhh .....no wait that was a long time ago but here's the story that happened. One day a few weeks ago we went to Mckee Reserve and Mapua Aquarium. At the reserve Richard de Hamel told us that we should see at least one creature under every rock. We found two small flounder and one big one. After a while we found a purple rock crab. Then we went back up to the cars to have lunch and a play on the playground. Then it was off in the cars to Mapua. There we touch the stingrays, they felt smooth. The eels felt as bumpy as sandpaper. In the Discovery Zone Richard told us more about the rocky shore and then we had a look around at the telescopes and touch tanks. It was a fantastic but tirering day.

Jump Rope
At Brightwater school we did Jump Rope it was fun. Mrs Bryce took the whole school for Jump Jam. Then we got lots of skiping ropes. There were long skiping ropes and short ones too. The people that were skiping good got a heart sticker and I got one. It was a hot day so everyone was sweating. Lots of people got heart stickers and some people didn't. Some people got photos taken of them.

SAND and SEAWEED
On Friday the 13 of October we went to sand and seaweed at Brightwater school Hall. Steve talked about things that live in the sea.
Kayla Ching is looking at a crab. She thinks it is amazing.
The crab is very very big.
Steve said that sea horse Dads carrys the eggs. They can have up to over 100 eggs. Only some survive because the Dad eats them. Starfish are now
called Seastars because they are not fish. Seastars have up to 13 legs.
Lydia,Olivia and Hannah are looking at a very very big conch shell.
They think it is VERY BIG.

Kupe's wheke disaster
In room 7 we have been writing about a Legend of a man called Kupe. He lived in a hot Polynesian island called Hawiaki. Fishermen on that island usually caught lots of fish but started catching fewer & fewer. Kupe asked a priest to charm their hooks & lines. When they looked into the clear water they saw that there were lots of tiny wheke stealing their fish so they had to do something about it to help the hungry people of Hawiaki. Kupe decided to sail out to sea with his wife, friend and his 5 children to kill the big octopus. They ended up in the Raukawa the (cook strait) where they fought the big wheke. Kupe tricked the Wheke by shouting to his friends & family to throw the water gourds over the side.
